Activated July 15, 1943 at Camp Hale, Co.  Fought in Operation Encore, February 19 to March 5; Amphibious crossing in DUKWs of Lake Garda, seizing Gargnano in April of 1945. 

86TH MOUNTAIN INFANTRY REGIMENT

86TH MOUNTAIN INFANTRY REGIMENT

Activated May 1, 1943 at Camp Hale, Co. First regiment of division to arrive in Italy. Fought next to 1st Brazilian Division during time in Italy. Fought in Operation Encore, February 19 through March 5. 700 men from regiment scaled and secured Riva Ridge ahead of operation. Germans did not guard the ridge because of the assumption that no American unit could climb the ridge – day or night. 

87TH MOUNTAIN INFANTRY REGIMENT

87TH MOUNTAIN INFANTRY REGIMENT

First regiment activated - Activated May 25, 1942 at Mountain Training Center, WA. Regiment climbed Mt Rainier to validate training. Assigned to Amphibious Training Force #9 July 14, 1943.  Landed on Kiska on August 15, 1943. Arrived at Camp Hale, CO. Fought in Operation Encore, February 19 to March 5; A Company was the first unit to cross the Po River. Motto: We Conquer Power and Mountains  

126TH MOUNTAIN ENGINEER BATTALION

126TH MOUNTAIN ENGINEER BATTALION

Provided engineer support to the division. Constructed aerial trams to move men, casualties, and equipment across mountain peaks.

604TH FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION

604TH FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION

Organic field artillery support to 10th Mountain Division along with the 605th and 616th FA Bns (Pack). “Pack” designation because the battalion used 75mm pack howitzers as opposed to standard 105mm guns in order to easily transport in the mountains.

751ST TANK BATTALION

751ST TANK BATTALION

Attached to 10th Mountain from February 17 to April 17 1945. Responsible for tank support of division assault against Mt. Belvedere. First armored unit to reach Po Valley and cross it.

COMPANY C, 894TH TANK DESTROYER BATTALION

Attached to 10th Mountain Division from February 19 through April 6 1945. Provided anti-tank support with 75mm M3, M4 and M5 Gun Motor Carriages (GMCs). 

1125TH ARMORED FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION

1125TH ARMORED FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION

A 5th Army asset attached to the 10th Mountain Division, the 1125th Armored Field Artillery Battalion provided artillery support through 105mm self-propelled howitzers.
